Artist's Statement

Influences

Agata Karwowska's jewellery visually and conceptually integrates the elements of architecture and mineral formations. Unmistakably evident throughout the collections, these influences intertwine and intersect, interpreting the design from various angles.

Architecture speaks the language of structural stability. As a means of organising space through order, proportion, and ornament, it inherently underpins Agata Karwowska's artistic background in design composition.

By contrast, geological processes are driven by transformation. Mineral growth patterns emerge in response to evolving conditions, while the layers of Earth themselves withstand continuous structural change.

Approach

Agata Karwowska adapts an intuitive approach to traditional goldsmithing, experimenting with conventional techniques and metal properties,
working in precious metals and ethically sourced gemstones.

She manoeuvres raw gold as its structure shifts at the melting point, drawing raised reliefs that reveal a natural craqueleure upon solidifying. This technique has become a defining substance in the Cyclopean Collection and a textured cornerstone in architectural compositions of the Classical Collection.

In the Cartesian Collection, she demonstrates an inventive method of carving striated reliefs that dynamically cascade and fracture the light, interrupting clean geometric planes.

Rationale

By prioritising exploration in traditional techniques over automated means, Agata Karwowska's work disregards trends and remains independent from mass production. Instead, she seeks singularity through ornament.

She encourages appreciation of the genuine form, sculpted with the artist's hands, the balance of lustre and texture, and the light inviting contrast and movement into the composition.

With a leap of imagination, she creates a personal connection between the wearer and the piece. In this intimate space, jewellery becomes not only a meaningful acquisition, but also an invitation to artistic introspection.
